Hydraulic Gauging Winch Features The following are the basic features of the Hydraulic Slackline Gauging Winch. The hydraulic winch is designed for use with the traditional Slackline cableway system, or can be easily adapted for use on an existing manned cableway set-up.

Power driven winches overcome the common problem of hand winches being difficult to operate when traversing the river. The Hydronet winch uses a Double Drum system, which eliminates the need for two hand winches. The drums also have a safety braking system. These units are usually mounted inside a shed so the operators are isolated from arduous weather conditions. The hydraulic system was developed to overcome some of the problems associated with electric driven winches, which include:
Difficulty obtaining accurate soundings due to the inability to disconnect the electric motor. The hydraulic unit overcomes this by using a dog clutch assembly to disconnect the motor, which enables an accurate sounding to be obtained using the manual crank handle. − High power consumption of the electric motor. The electric over hydraulic unit uses considerably less battery power.
Distance counters operating backwards if the winch was mounted on the wrong bank. With the hydraulic unit, different model distance counters can be fitted depending on which bank you have the unit mounted on.
Width of river to be measured is restricted by drum size. With the hydraulic system drum sizes can be varied upon request enabling cross sections up to approximately 250m in width.
The inability to control the speed of electric motors. With the hydraulic system the speed of the winch can be varied right down to a stop with the speed adjustment valve.
